Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Yangon

If you are arriving on the suggested group flights or the same time as the group flights you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free until your welcome meeting which will be held at 6pm. If you are arriving at a different time we can arrange a private transfer (prices below)

Yangon has been the capital of Myanmar since the British transformed it into their administrative centre of future India. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes Yangon one of the most fascinating capitals of South East Asia.

Day 2 - Yangon

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast transfer to city centre to take a walking tour in downtown to observe the colonial styled red-brick buildings built by the British during 1900s. You can observe Yangon at its fabulous mix of architecture and sites.

Visit Karaweik Hall known as a royal barge on the royal lake for the fantastic photo view. Continue to visit Chaukhtatgyi colossal reclining Buddha Image.

In the afternoon, proceed to Shwedagon Pagoda, which is claimed to be the world richest golden stupa of two thousand five hundred years old. The golden dome rises 98 meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold. Enjoy fantastic sunset view from the hilltop. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 3 - Yangon – Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay Hill

Meals included: Breakfast

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to airport for your Mandalay bound flight.

Upon arrival at Mandalay proceed to Mayanchan jetty, observe water buffaloes working with Myanmar superlative teak wood and busy riverside activity. Board a privately chartered boat for Mingun across Ayeyarwady River. Observe Mingun bell, the world's largest ringing bell weighing 90 tons. Other tour highlights are Settawya Pagoda with a marble foot print of Buddha and Pahtodawgyi, an enormous pile of bricks is all that remains of King Bodawpaya's grandiose scheme Mingun Village and Shinbume Pagoda, most attractive pagoda built in 19 centuries.

In the afternoon, stroll around the foot of Mandalay hill to observe Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery which is the finest example of Myanmar wooden art and Kuthowdaw Pagoda which claims to house the world’s largest book of Buddhist scripture. We will end our day at Mandalay hill enjoying a fantastic sunset view from the hill.

Day 4 - Ava – Amarapur – U Bein Bridge

Meals included: Breakfast

This morning visit Phayagyi to pay homage to the most revered Mahamuni Image and continue to ancient capital of Amarapura "meaning city of immortality" where the country's largest monastery, Mahagandayon Monastery is located.  Observe the lunch process of hundreds of Buddhist monks.

Proceed to forgotten ancient capital of Ava the 14-century capital located across Myit Nge river. Observe unique monasteries and monuments include a look at 88-foot-high watchtower, Bargaya teak monastery which is famous for its teak pillars amounting to 267 in total, the remains of the royal palace and fort.

Observe fantastic sunset from unique 200 years old U Bein wooden bridge. Return to Mandalay.

Day 5 - Mandalay – Sagaing - Monywa

Meals included: Breakfast

Today, the group wakes up early morning as the time to leave hotel is by 03:00AM in the morning as it takes two hours’ drive from Mandalay to Sagaing as the group will experience of watching process of monk’s having breakfast. The monks usually have the breakfast between 04:30AM – 05:30AM. After that, proceed for an excursion of Kaungmudaw, Sun U Ponya Shin pagoda before the group head out to Monywa.

Monywar is a typical Myanmar town located on the bank of the Chindwin River. Proceed to Phoewintaung site across Chindwin river. This extraordinary complex consists of 947 sandstone caves dug out of the rocky hills and contains what is considered by archaeologists to be the richest collection of mural paintings and Buddhist statues in South East Asia. Powintaung with its unique Buddha Images and precious frescoes some dating from the early 17th century.

The group may have to skip some of the sights from above mentioned activities, as your leader knows the best place for the photo shooting among those places.

Day 6 - Monywa – Pakkoku - Bagan

Meals included: Breakfast

Have a great day by driving along the country roads [approx. 7 hours - total time from Monywa to Bagan]. You may stop at villages and everywhere people delighted to have their pictures taken!

On the way drive to Pakkoku, we will stop by Ma U village for the short excursion of incense stick making factory and visit tobacco market in Pakkoku. A visit to Pakangyi - said to be the place of skilful quibblers in Myanmar. Observe the huge monasteries, supported by the hundreds of teak pillars and ornamental backdrop of a throne and the most amazing, wood carved Buddha Image.

Cross the Ayeyarwady river to get to Bagan.

Photo shooting transfer for sunset time is included. We assume that group would have the most beautiful photos when taking the boat cross from Pakkoku to Bagan if the weather is clear and nice.

Day 7 - Bagan

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast you’ll take a sightseeing tour of various temples around Bagan. You will be visiting the Gawdawpalin pagoda, Anandar Temple, and some of the best preserved architectural masterpieces from the Bagan Kingdom. Then continue to visit Dhammyangyi, the temple of evil king for displaying two contrasting images of the Buddha.

In the afternoon, visit traditional lacquerware workshop to observe the process of making unique Myanmar souvenirs. Later, proceed for sunset at one of the ruins. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 8 - Bagan

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, visit the Nyaung Oo market for a cultural insight into local trade routines that occur daily. Then visit the Wetkyi Inn Gubyaukgyi temple to explore original 12-century mural paintings, and the Htilominlo temple which contains frescoes representing the prophecy of 28 Buddhas that will reincarnate in the future. Then we continue to Natlaungkyaung, the only Hindu temple that survived in Bagan, and the Manuha temple where the former Mon king was held captive by King Anawratha(founder of the Bagan kingdom).

In the afternoon, visit Bhu Paya which is said to be the oldest temple in Bagan, and proceed for sunset at one of the ruins. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 9 - Bagan – Kalaw via Mt. Popa

Meals included: Breakfast

Breakfast at hotel. Leisurely drive to Kalaw (approx. 8 hours) through the mainland observing the dry zone of Myanmar as well as twisting and turning hilly drive through Shan plateau.

On the way you are driving to Kalaw, visit Mt. Popa which is an extinct volcano with its shrine dedicated to animist spirits, known as "Nats".  On the way observe local daily life activities such as toddy palm juice extracting, sweet ball (brown sugar) making process and hand drill edible oil production etc. For the energetic it is time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the hill.

Kalaw is former British hills station town, cool, spring-like weather, pine forests, tea plantations and colourfully clad hill tribes make this town to a natural magnet.

Hopefully, the group would have very nice photos in Kalaw as it is beautiful uphill town.

Day 10 - Kalaw – Pindaya - Inle

Meals included: Breakfast

Breakfast at hotel and depart for Pindaya cave (Shwe U Min cave) (48 km, approx. 1½ hour), known as the home of the countless Buddha Images. Explore around wonder of the mystery cave and Pa O paper umbrella-making process. Continue to Inle Lake (91 km approx. 2 hour). Inle Lake, the second largest natural lake in Myanmar with 20 km long and 10 km wide, situate 875 meters above the sea level among the hazy Blue Mountains.

Day 11 - Inle

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast at hotel, board on a traditional long and tall motorized boat for a sightseeing tour of the lake. You will have a chance to observe the unique leg-rowing fishermen, floating firms that are built up from strips of water hyacinth and mud anchored to the bottom of the lake with bamboo poles, houses and monasteries built on the lake on tilts.

Visit the famous Phaungdaw Oo pagoda which houses five sacred Buddha images which are almost shapeless due gold leaves coatings, and several cottage industries.  In the afternoon, continue to visit the floating village of Ywama, the weaving village of Inpawkhon and Ngaphechaung which is a museum-like monastery where old belongings from many other monasteries are restored. Overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

Day 12 - Inle

Meals included: Breakfast, dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, we will enjoy visiting the 5 days rotating market to observe a colourful market. Then we continue to Indein which is one of the small villages of Inlay Lake located on the western bank of the lake. Start to walk and visit Na Daung Kya village which is famous for typical cracker made with sticky rice flour and explore to village for their bean, corn plantation as well as a daily village life.

Proceed to visit a complex of about 1,000 stupas of varying sizes built between the 17th and 18th centuries. We can enjoy wandering around these overgrown ruins. (Lunch break)

Continue to trek to Nay Daw village (approx. 1 hour) which is little village of where Pa Oh tribes are settled. Observe around the village where they grow garlic and beans. Board on your boat and back to hotel. Overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

Day 13 - Inle – Heho - Yangon

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast transfer to Heho airport for the flight back to Yangon. Upon your arrival at Yangon domestic airport, transfer to hotel in Yangon.

In the afternoon, visit Bogyoke market (close on Monday), a famous shopping centre to enjoy display of Myanmar superlative handicraft.

Continue to explore Yangon as it starts to come alive as market stalls open, people finish work and take to the streets for their evening rituals.  With explore local markets, China town and local street food and finish up at what is known locally as ‘BBQ Street’. Overnight in Yangon.

What you will gain from this tour

The tour is designed for a beginner in photography and those with experience. We will begin at the basics of photography enabling you to develop a strong foundation in photographic technique, creativity and composition.

Our aim is to help you grow as a photographer by working with you as part of a group and individually with hands on support, and reviews of your work. Learning within a group will give you the opportunity to share ideas, knowledge and your passion, which will expand your photographic perspective.

With our guidance we encourage you to discover you own visual voice and focus on what appeals to you photographically whether be landscapes, portraiture, travel or documentary style. We give plenty of demonstrations and photo shoots set, which will be exciting and give you the chance to capture some stunning, images.

Our approach is to keep the itinerary interesting and varied but at the same time not having a huge list of places to visit. Therefore having quality time at locations so as to get the most out of it both photographically and on a personal level. Immersing your self both visually and sensually. The approach is holistic and aims at giving you a real feeling for the pulse of place and the people of Ladakh and share cultural experiences and seeing breath taking natural landscapes.

Price and Booking of the Photography Tour

The price range is £1875 / $2430 / €2145 per person

(The difference in price is dependant on the number of participants)

When booking a deposit of £200 / $258 / €226 is required.

Group size - Maximum 12

Bookings are handled by the Intrepid Travel Private Groups department in the United Kingdom. Your contract is with them, and they will handle all payments. This means that you are protected by their industry bonding. If you purchase a flight for you through them you can be issued with an ATOL certificate.
